About Me
I studied Physiotherapy at St Thomas' Hospital, London, qualifying in 1992 and started work in the NHS at Southampton General Hospital, where the opportunity to work with Mr Simon Lambert, Consultant Orthopaedic Shoulder Surgeon, initially fuelled my interest in the shoulder.
This interest continued and grew with the continued opportunity to work in joint shoulder clinics with Consultant Orthopaedic Shoulder Surgeons Mr Andrew Cole and Mr Campbell Hand at Southampton General Hospital, and subsequently in NHS triage clinics in Orthopaedic Choice across South Hampshire.
I was fortunate enough to be one of the first Allied Health Professionals to be awarded the British Elbow and Shoulder Society AHP fellowship in 2000, which furthered my interest in shoulder therapy enabling me to visiting other shoulder professionals in the UK and Europe as part of this award. I obtained a postgraduate diploma in Manipulative Physiotherapy in 2002 and completed a Master’s Injection Therapy module in 2013.
I also started working in private practice in 1998, balancing this alongside NHS management and clinical commitments, in order to continue to pursue my passion for helping people with all types of shoulder problems, including sports injuries, frozen shoulder, dislocations and rotator cuff problems, as well as those recovering from shoulder surgery. I have worked exclusively in the private sector since 2015.
I have been involved in teaching other health professionals about shoulder rehabilitation and in the development of postoperative physiotherapy shoulder protocols. My experience in triage clinics has given me the knowledge and experience to be able to signpost when patients may benefit from either an injection or diagnostic imaging, or referrals to a Consultant.
I receive referrals from Consultant Orthopaedic Shoulder Surgeons across Hampshire, Dorset and London, assessing a wide range of shoulder conditions, and welcome these as well as patients referred from GPs and local physiotherapists. However I also accept self-referrals from people who can contact me directly.
